Gujarat Titans, who are the defending champions and topped the league phases, defeated Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 on Friday in front of their home fans at the venue after Chennai Super Kings edged past them in Qualifier 1 in Chennai.
That was MS Dhoni-led Super Kings’ first win over the Ahmedabad-based outfit, who continue to lead the head-to-head 1-3. Chennai and GT in fact played the first game of the IPL 2023 season as well with the latter reigning supreme with a five-wicket win at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Deepak Chahar is bowling in full swing as well with 12 scalps in his last five spells. Spinner Maheesh Theekshana has been among the wickets as well with four dismissals in the last two games.
Out of form Ambati Rayudu is having a tough time in the twilight of his career while Moeen Ali has gone wicketless in the last three games and wasn’t considered in the playing 11 for the Qualifiers.
GT injury update There’s no update on Yash Dayal’s injury since the last group game but his services may not be needed as well with Hardik Pandya returning to bowling in the last game.
GT key players Shubman Gill’s devastating form at the fag end has been the highlight of the season as the opener has scored three centuries in the last four games. His opening partner Wriddhiman Saha is struggling despite getting a good start.
Sai Sudharasan returned to the batting order as well to further boost the Titans’ strength while the likes of Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya, and David Miller are tasked with further middle-order duties. Miller, however, has struggled to get going off late while Vijay Shankar has come out a power-hitter and match-winner this season.
Pandya has often played responsible innings but has failed to show consistency while the likes of Rashid Khan, Rahul Tewatia and Abhinav Manohar provide hard-hitting in the death overs. Rashid has been primarily the match-winner with the ball as well and has the habit of taking big wickets.
He is just a wicket behind purple cap holder Mohammad Shami, who picked two wickets in the Qualifier 2 to take his season tally to 28 wickets. Mohit Sharma has come out a dangerous bowler as well with a five-wicket haul in the last game and has now 14 wickets in the last four spells. Young Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad went for runs in the last game but has been a key member as well with 14 wickets in 12 games.
