IF you’re dreading the winter season, long stay breaks somewhere warmer could be the answer you’ve been looking for.
We found stays in Europe and further, with prices starting from just £13pp per night.
From beach stays in Spain and Portugal to cities like Orlando, we rounded up the best destinations for a winter escape.
Malta
Malta is located in the Med between Sicily and the Tunisian coast.
The island nation and its sister island Gozo are blessed with a sunny climate even in the winter months, with average high temperatures of 20C.
You’ll have plenty of time to uncover the archipelago’s rich history, cuisine and incredible sandy beaches.


Tenerife
Tenerife is the biggest out of the Canary Islands, and even during the winter months, you can expect long hours of sunshine and temperatures of 21°C.
The island is well known for its sandy beaches, water parks, incredible views and activities all year round.

Benidorm
Bendirom features beautiful beaches, cheap deals and hot weather throughout the year.
The Spanish region of Benidorm became popular in the 1980s and has remained popular ever since.
British tourists remain the most popular visitors, making up 34 per cent of the total hotel guests in the region.
You could spend days by the beach and hit up the neon-lit bars by night.
Costa del Sol
This part of the Spanish coast stretches from Nerja to Estepona and is a sunbathing heaven.
You could live like a native, taking afternoon naps and indulging in tapas while exploring the endless miles of golden coastline.
However winter is the coldest time of the year, but the average daily temperatures is still around 17C – way hotter than the UK.
Cyprus
Cyprus is one of the most southerly islands in the Med, so it’s a pretty safe bet for winter sunshine.
Things cool off a little in January, but they’re still pleasant enough to enjoy the beach and dinners al fresco with average highs of 18ºC and long hours of sunshine.
Cyprus has acient history, dreamy local cuisine and a lively nightlife.
Fuerteventura
The Canary Island of Fuerteventura is ideal for a long winter stays thanks to its year-round sunlight, more than 90 miles of sandy beaches, and spectacular volcanic scenery.
There are also fewer crowds, so you won’t have to fight for a spot on the beach, and all of the attractions, shops and bars and still open.
Portugal
The balmy temperatures of Portugal make it a favourite for winter sun long-stays.
The Algarve should be at the top of your list, which offers plenty of wonderful locations for sunbathing, renowned for its walking paths and botanical gardens.
Even outside of the busiest summer months, there are still many tourists and events taking place in Portugal.
Temperature wise, you can expect highs of 20 to 22C during winter.
Florida
Florida is always at the top of the list when it comes to long-haul long stays.
The region has year-round sunshine, a stunning coastline, and some of the world’s biggest and best theme parks.
Long stays in Orlando are the perfect balance between a beach and city holiday, with plenty of golf, shopping and restaurants to enjoy.
Turkey
Turkey is famous for its historic ruin sites, lively towns, beaches, mountains, shopping and top-notch cuisine — all at a reasonable price.
You could go on a city holiday to Istanbul or a beach long-stay on the coast.
Temperatures aren’t the hottest out of this list, as it can get quite cold in Janaury – the average highs are around 15C, with daily temperatures a minimum of 7C.
