Blackpool, York and London have the UK’s cheapest Christmas markets for families according to new rankings.
The three cities came out top when it came to a budget-friendly day out based across a number of factors including a market’s entry fee, parking costs, the cost of visiting Santa’s Grotto and even the price for an ice skating session.
There is plenty of choice for families too with at least 30 markets going ahead this festive season.
Blackpool topped the list when it came to the cheapest Christmas market day out for families – and there’s plenty for families to enjoy while sticking to a budget.
Blackpool Winter Gardens Wonderland was ranked the best value for money, thanks to the amount of free activities included such as snowfalls, projection shows and even ice skating! Oh, and did we mention ice skating is free too?
You’ll need to pay for some extras such as rides or Santa’s Grotto, but overall it proved to offer budget-friendly offerings for families.
York came second in the rankings from Vanarama, as home to Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland. With free entrance and free parking it already had serious budget-friendly credentials, not to mention its ice skating sessions start from £10.95 per child and £11.95 per adult.

Incidentally, York has also been named the best child-friendly Christmas city in the UK this festive season, thanks to the abundance of sweet and toy shops on offer, as well as the child-friendly attractions dotted around the city.
The bronze medal in the findings went to Edinburgh, where the total cost for a family based on entrance, parking, ice skating and Santa’s Grotto came to £66. This doesn’t include factors such as food, drink and admission for the individual rides, but there’s plenty going on around the city that you can keep costs down, even if you do treat yourself to some gingerbread for the kids (and mulled wine for the parents).
