The Spanish club were forced to dip into the transfer market following the injury to Thibaut Courtois, who is set to miss the majority of the season.
Courtois has already undergone surgery after he suffered a cruciate ligament injury in training last week and Madrid have acted quickly to sign a temporary replacement in Kepa.
It’s understood that Madrid do not have an option to buy the Spaniard as part of their agreement with Chelsea.
In a statement released by Chelsea on Monday, the club said: ‘The club wish him well for the season ahead in Madrid, where he will work with former Chelsea head coach Carlo Ancelotti.’
Chelsea, meanwhile, are in the market to sign a new goalkeeper before the end of the window.
Robert Sanchez, who joined in a £25m deal from Brighton earlier this summer, was handed his debut in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.
But Chelsea are targeting Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili and Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel as potential replacements for Kepa.
