Chelsea have already begun to back Graham Potter in the transfer window as the Blues boss has got to work on improving the squad he has at his disposal. Co-owner and acting sporting director Todd Boehly spent over £200million in his first transfer window since taking over at Stamford Bridge, and is set to continue splashing the cash.
CBS Sports have claimed that there is a club-to-club agreement in place between Chelsea and RB Leipzig for Christopher Nkunku to move to the Premier League for a fee in the region of £60m. The Frenchman has been the subject of several transfer rumours due to his success and goalscoring record in the Bundesliga, with Chelsea at one stage said to have agreed a deal for the Leipzig star but delayed the transfer until the summer of 2023.
The deal looks set to be completed, however, as Chelsea will have mixed feelings over Nkunku’s participation for France at the World Cup. He was named as part of Didier Deschamps’ squad in Qatar, but was forced to withdraw having picked up an injury in training as the national team were preparing for their opening game against Australia.
Chelsea will have relished the chance for their newest signing to play against and among the world’s elite and continue the 25-year-old’s development, though there may have been a chance that he impressed on the biggest stage and other clubs upped their interest.

The ex-Brighton man may opt to play Nkunku as a central striker as he has not settled on either Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Armando Broja. Potter could use him behind the striker alongside Mason Mount, as part of a box midfield he often employed at the Seagulls in a 3-4-2-1 shape.
Potter’s wing-backs have also been deployed unusually high, as Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic have both been used in the unorthodox role that sees the wide men play closer to wingers while Chelsea defended with a back three.
Nkunku could even play in that wing-back role despite not playing there before in his career, Potter has previously converted Leandro Trossard to a wing-back at Brighton.
