Frank Lampard has been brought in as caretaker manager in order to allow Chelsea to extend their search for Graham Potter’s permanent successor.
Both Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have spoken to Chelsea’s recruitment team, while former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is also on the club’s shortlist.
According to Sky Germany, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart met with Nagelsmann in London last Thursday where the former Bayern Munich head coach presented his ideas.
The report claims that talks were positive and although a final decision has not been made, it’s understood that Chelsea have Nagelsmann ahead of Luis Enrique at this point.
Luis Enrique has also spoken to Chelsea’s recruitment team in London this month, however, reports in Spain have claimed that the former Barcelona boss was ‘disappointed’ by the club’s decision to appoint Lampard until the end of the season.
The Spaniard has been out of work since he stepped away from his role as Spain’s head coach after the World Cup in December.
Tottenham also plan to speak to speak to Luis Enrique as they seek a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte.
Nagelsmann, meanwhile, is keen to have a break following his Bayern Munich exit and could have alternative options to Chelsea by the summer.
Real Madrid are understood to have the 35-year-old on their radar as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season.
