Chelsea takeover finally complete as Todd Boehly era begins

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is planning an overhaul of his squad after Todd Boehly’s takeover of the Stamford Bridge club was finally completed.

The American billionaire’s protracted takeover was finalised on Monday, with the Boehly consortium having beaten 250 other interested buyers. But the news comes with the Blues currently facing the fact they could lose the likes of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen when their contracts expire, with fellow defenders Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso also linked with the exit door.

That has led to Tuchel drawing up a list of targets as potential replacements. While the club could also target Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez in a move that could see Romelu Lukaku move in the opposite direction.

Tuchel plans overhaul

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly drawn up a list of potential transfer candidates as he targets an overhaul of his Chelsea squad this summer.

Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde is said to be high on the list, while RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol also features as the Blues target replacements for Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. Should Marcos Alonso depart, it is believed that Tuchel wants Emerson Palmieri to return from his loan at Lyon to replace him.

And Tuchel also wants a new right-back, with Achraf Hakiki and Serginho Dest reportedly of interest.

Takeover interest revealed

Todd Boehly’s consortium fought off 11 serious rivals and more than 250 enquiries to become the new Chelsea owners, it has been revealed.

The 48-year-old US tycoon’s consortium finally took the Stamford Bridge helm on Monday, having finalised the purchase from Roman Abramovich. The new owner has pledged to “make the fans proud” and “build on Chelsea’s remarkable history of success”.

Following the announcement of the takeover, Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston has announced the club will no longer be subject to the government operating licence that was imposed a week after the club was placed up for sale due to Abramovich’s alleged ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Martinez linked with move

Chelsea could be about to swap struggling forward Romelu Lukaku for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, according to reports.

Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge last summer but has struggled to make the same impact he had in firing Inter to the Serie A title the previous season. It has led to reports that the Belgium international could seek a summer move, while his former teammate Martinez has also been linked with a summer move.

And reports coming out of Italy now suggest the players could swap clubs, with Inter reportedly seeing Lukaku as a priority signing.
