Marina Granovskaia looks to have finally solved Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell dependency, handing Thomas Tuchel an easy decision to make regarding Marcos Alonso’s future.
In the England international’s absence, Alonso has struggled to engineer anywhere near as much success from left wing-back as his counterpart.
Unfortunately for Alonso, his involvement has correlated with the Blues descent, raising more questions than ever regarding his future at Stamford Bridge.
While Alonso has proved that he can perform at the highest level and produce flashes of magic, the obvious gulf in class between him and Chilwell has seen many fans run out of patience. Chelsea fans have been calling for the Spanish international’s exit, and Chelsea has already found the answer.
The Blues have taken an interest in Anderlecht defender Sergio Gomez, according to TEAMtalk.
Gomez has impressed under Vincent Kompany this season, directly contributing towards 16 goals and assists from left-back in just 21 Jupiler Pro League games.
In the summer, Spain Under-21 international joined the Belgian side from Borussia Dortmund and thrived after converting from a central-midfielder to a full-back.
Gomez has showcased his incredible versatility, technical ability, and engine in Belgium as Chelsea looks to repeat an old transfer project.
Between the summers of 2011 and 2012, the west Londoners made three investment signings from top-flight Belgian sides, including Kevin De Bruyne, Thibaut Courtois, and Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea went on to rake in £83.1 million for the sales of De Bruyne, Courtois and Lukaku a few years later, as per Transfermarkt.

With the potential arrival of Gomez in mind and the Blues’ history with yielding high-quality product from a similar field, then the Anderlecht defender could become Chelsea’s timely replacement for Alonso.
The Spaniard could operate as either a left-back, left wing-back, left-winger or centre-midfield for the Blues, making him the ideal signing for Tuchel amid Chelsea’s injury-ridden squad.
Chelsea has had a great success rate from singing from the Jupiler Pro League, and it might be the right time for the Blues to start scouting the league again to find the next big things and give them an edge over their Premier League title rivals.
