Cher has revealed she’s rarely ever been left heartbroken and her reasoning for not being too fussed about break-ups is totally amazing.
The American singer, 77, had two high-profile relationships in the 1970s – with singing partner Sonny Bono from 1964 to 1975 and singer Gregg Allman from 1975 to 1979.
In the years since she’s been linked to other stars including Gene Simmons and Tom Cruise and is now dating music executive Alexander Edwards, who is 40 years her junior.
She’s now spoken about her dating life during an appearance on Chicken Shop Date and has made some incredible statements about what it’s like meeting men as one of the most famous women in the world.
But when asked by host Amelia Dimoldenberg if she could pass on any tips for getting over a broken heart, Cher shared she hadn’t had experienced that feeling many times.
Asked to elaborate about how many times, she replied ‘almost none’, before being drawn on what her secret to avoiding heartbreak was.
‘I’m cute,’ she simply replied, smiling and shrugging her shoulders.
Later in the interview, Cher also said older men ‘just do not like’ her, and instead advised women that one thing they should do at least once in their life was to ‘go out with a younger man’.
However, she explained that she struggled at first when her current partner made his move.
‘I left to go to Switzerland and he texted me, “Where are you going?” and I said “I’m going to Switzerland. I’m a little tired”, and then he wrote me, “Well, get some rest, babyyy,” with three Ys,’ she recalled.
‘And I’m like, “He doesn’t know me well enough to put three Ys on baby”.’ I was kind of p***ed off. And then he just started texting me.’
She added: ‘I told my friends, don’t fall in love with a younger man, we’re too old. And don’t fall in love by text. There goes that theory.’
During an In Conversation event in London on Friday night, Cher also revealed her boyfriend had helped reignite her love for singing.
‘Well, I haven’t made anything for a long time. Alexander said to me, when we first met, he said, “Why aren’t you singing?” and I said, “I don’t know”,’ she explained.
‘I didn’t think of it. I don’t know. I wasn’t inspired. Then he brought me some songs that were really great that I’m gonna do on this next album that I’m about to do.
‘I figured, I’m in the groove, and so I might as well do it, because I really forgot how much I liked singing. You forget!’ she told hosts Ken Bruce and Harriet Scott.
