Cher is one of the greatest entertainers to ever live. Case in point: her Twitter account. Her tweet “What’s going on with mycareer” and her emoji use are just two examples of her being iconic online. But on Tuesday 19 July, Cher used the platform to share her experience with miscarriages, writing that she had three.
“When I was young I had 3 miscarriages,” Cher began and ended with “WHAT WOULD HAPPEN 2 ME TODAY.” Activists have warned that, in states where abortion is now illegal, people who suffer miscarriages – which are medically indistinguishable from self-managed abortions – could be accused of having abortions.

Cher also responded to a few people in her mentions, including one who referenced If These Walls Could Talk, a 1996 HBO film that follows the lives of three different women who had abortions in three different decades: the 1950s, the 1970s, and the 1990s. Each vignette is meant to reflect popular views on the topic in the given decade. The film starred Demi Moore, Sissy Spacek, and Cher, who directed the third segment of the film. A follow-up film aired on HBO in 2000, starring Vanessa Redgrave, Anne Heche, Chloë Sevigny, Michelle Williams, and Ellen DeGeneres.
Cher replied to the tweet mentioning the movie with a message for HBO.
