The ONCE team from Castilla y León was one of the outstanding players in the twentieth edition of the Spanish Team Chess Championship for visually impaired athletes.

The Castilian and Leonese team achieved runner-up in the event held in Gijón, and in which they were only beaten by the Tarragona team.

In the test organized by the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind, the athletes of Fedeacyl Roberto Clemente, Alejandro Martínez, Jesús Díez, José Luis Ampudia and the young Aarón San Juan participated.

By teams, the regional team only lost in the calculation of games with Cádiz, while it was even with Tarragona and surpassed Madrid, Málaga and Castilla La Mancha.

The competition was played by the one-round league system, and it was not until the last round that the podium was decided, since up to three teams could win the title.

Finally, Tarragona asserted its status as favorite with ONCE Castilla y León in second place; and Cádiz, in third.

Another piece of good news is that the Castilian and Leonese team -together with the Catalan team- obtains direct qualification for the next final phase in 2024 with their result.
