China tells families to stockpile food

China’s The Ministry of Commerce issued a statement on Tuesday, November 2, telling families to “make efforts to ensure the supply of food”. This comes as the result of a coronavirus outbreak in the country that has reportedly already spread among 16 provinces. Some cities in these regions have been partially or totally locked down.

Authorities also asked households to “stockpile basic necessities in case of emergencies”. At the same time, local authorities were asked to guarantee the supply of food to people, and to do everything possible to keep the food prices stable.

The Economic Daily reported that the notification aims to “ensure that citizens do not have problems if a lockdown is imposed in their area”. They added that it also seeks that citizens “increase awareness when dealing with emergencies since many people were left without food at home after their residential complexes closed due to covid cases”.

Right now, China is fighting an outbreak that they are blaming on the delta variant of coronavirus. They have responded in the usual fashion of partial or total confinements in some cities, travel restrictions, and several rounds of nucleic acid tests in different parts of the country.

Last Sunday 31, they even closed down Disneyland Shanghai after it was discovered that one Covid positive person had visited the park the previous day. More than 30,000 were locked inside the park and tested for the virus before being allowed to leave.

In its last report published on Tuesday, the country’s National Health Commission announced the detection of 71 new cases of the virus. 54 of them due to local contagion, affecting at least 16 regions of the country. There are 912 active infected cases in mainland China, 35 of which are serious, as reported by 20minutos.es.
