Chris Colbert and Jose Valenzuela in furious argument over controversial decision

Chris Colbert beat Jose Valenzuela by a hugely controversial unanimous decision on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

The fight, which took place on the undercard of David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant, caused plenty of arguments – not least between the two boxers themselves.

Valenzuela was stunned as Colbert got the decision

Valenzuela started strongly in the bout as he floored Colbert in the opening round.

He also badly hurt him in several of the ten rounds of action, causing him to back up at times and retreat to a corner.

Colbert appeared to be suffering with an eye injury midway through the contest and at one point looked close to being stopped.

However, to his credit he was able to bounce back well each time after being troubled.

As a result, when the final bell rang, some observers had relatively close unofficial scorecards.

Despite this though, the vast majority felt Valenzuela had still done enough to win convincingly.

When the three official judges’ scorecards were read out, Colbert was declared the victor by unanimous decision with all three scoring it 95-94 in his favour.

Instantly, Valenzuela was outraged.

The two fighters began to argue in the ring and much of what they were saying to each other was difficult to make out.

Colbert instantly offered a rematch, as he said, ‘We can run it back,’ but Valenzuela responded, ‘Be a man, you didn’t win.’

Colbert rubbed it in

The official victor insisted, ‘I outboxed you,’ and from there the argument became more and more heated.

Valenzuela told Colbert, ‘You’re tripping, you know you didn’t win,’ to which Colbert replied, ‘Why have you got to be a sore loser?’

The argument ended with Colbert holding up his winner’s medal in Valenzuela’s face and sticking his tongue out at him.

When they were interviewed separately, the crowd cheered loudly for Valenzuela and booed viciously for Colbert.
