Viewership of Cuomo Prime Time shot up 19% on Tuesday night when colleague Anderson Cooper filled in for Cuomo, the New York Post reported.
The broadcast attracted 897,000 viewers, compared to the previous night’s show, which drew in 754,000 viewers, according to Nielsen TV ratings data posted online by AdWeek’s TVNewser website .
CNN suspended Cuomo indefinitely on Tuesday after documents were published on the actions the network’s most prominent anchor took when his brother Andrew, the former governor of New York, was facing accusations of sexual harassment that eventually led to his resignation in August.
The court documents released by New York Attorney General Letitia James on Monday showed texts and other messages in which Chris Cuomo sought to use his own media sources to find out information on his brother’s case and the women involved in it.
On Wednesday, Chris Cuomo told listeners of his SiriusXM radio show that his was “hurt” and “embarrassed” by his suspension from CNN.
“It’s the last thing I ever wanted to do was compromise any of my colleagues,” he said.
According to Nielsen TV ratings data, Cuomo’s show had hit an all-time low early last month, dipping to 684,000 viewers — the show’s lowest since launching three years ago.
Cooper’s stint as Cuomo’s replacement is expected to last for the rest of the week, Variety reported.
