Chris Eubank Jr has suggested his father will not be in his corner for his fight against Conor Benn this weekend.

Eubank Snr has firmly opposed the fight that will see his son drop down to a 157lbs catchweight, having fought his entire career at 160lbs or higher.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk in September, the former middleweight and super-middleweight champion insisted he would not allow Eubank Jnr to fight at the agreed weight over safety concerns.

The 55-year-old has this this week called on fight fans to boycott this Saturday’s showdown, fearing his son could suffer a ‘brain injury’.

Despite Eubank Jr pleading for his father to return to his corner and train him for the Benn fight, the latter has so far kept his distance. Conor’s father Nigel Benn meanwhile has been a part of his son’s training camp and will be in the Benn corner at the O2 Arena on Saturday.

Whether Eubank Snr joins his old rival on the night remains to be seen.

‘Of course, people want to see my father in my corner,’ Eubank Jr told The Times. ‘Anybody would want to see that, and I would love to have him in my corner. We will see.

‘He’s emotional and erratic at times, indecisive, but I’m happy with the weight I’m at. We’re going to make history.’

While their fathers’ rivalry was built on an intense emotional that divided the country, Eubank Jr insists he will remove that from the equation this weekend.

‘Conor’s never done anything wrong to me. Yeah, he’s said he’s going to knock me out and do this and that, but if I hated people for saying stuff I’d hate half the planet.

‘I know from trial and error and experience that when emotions are involved you perform worse, you make mistakes and you’re not objective.

‘Even if I did hate him I would never say it because aside from love that’s the strongest human emotion you can have. I’m not giving that power to my opponent. I keep emotions out of business.’

Asked if that means it will be better for his father to stay away from ringside, Eubank Jr added: ‘Well, he is an emotional guy and he let his emotions get the better of him.’
