Chris Eubank Jr is in talks for a fight against Liam Smith in December.
The 32-year-old was set to fight Conor Benn in October only for their grudge match to be spectacularly called off days before the opening bell after ‘The Destroyer’s’ failed drug test.
Benn is battling to clear his name but Eubank Jr could be set to move on and fight fellow Briton Smith with 17 December a date under discussion.
The Star report talks are underway between BOXXER and Sky Sports with that date free following Anthony Joshua’s decision to push his return back until early 2023 with both Wembley Arena and the Manchester Arena free that weekend.
No contracts have been signed at this stage however with both camps sharing concerns with how close the date is.
Eubank Jr and Smith could hold off and wait until early next year but the report adds Sky are eager to get the show on before the end of the year.
Former light-middleweight champion Smith is on a run of three successive stoppage wins, stopping domestic rival Anthony Fowler in October last year before a superb victory over Jessie Vargas in New York in April.
A fourth-round victory over Hassan Mwakinyo added gloss to a superb run with the 34-year-old eager for world title opportunities.
Smith was one of the fighters Chris Eubank Snr was eager for his son to fight instead of Benn this year.
The British boxing legend expressed grave concerns over the doomed fight’s 157lbs catchweight from day one.
Eubank Snr lamented Jnr’s decisions to go against his wishes, telling Stamina for Sale last month: ‘He wants to be the boss and I said go ahead. I said I don’t think you should have the fight.
‘I think you get the same money for fighting Liam Smith, then you have Billy Joe Saunders, then you have Canelo and that’s you career. And these guys can you beat. Because you are a magnificent fighter.
‘I believe in him but he doesn’t believe in me. And sadly, it has come to the point where you no longer care, it means I have let go.’
