An atmospheric new story-driven RPG Circus Electrique has got its first trailer at The Game Awards and it gives a new meaning to the popular expression “the show must go on.”

This indie game was developed by Zen Studios, who have as their motto “Modernizing Nostalgia.” The motto feels appropriate once you have a look at the game’s style in the trailer. Circus Electrique is set in an alternate version of what appears to be Victorian London. From the trailer, we can observe that the game has a very BioShock Infinite feel to it in terms of setting and mood. In Circus Electrique, you do not play as a single protagonist but as a group of circus members each who possesses a unique talent. These gifted performers will be taking it upon themselves to defend the city from normal Londoners who have mysteriously and without warning turned violent and murderous.

The circus crew includes Strongmen, Fire Blowers, Escape Artists, Clowns, among others for an incredible total of 14 playable classes you can use to create your strategy in the turn-based battles. From what we can also infer from the trailer, there is a tactical mechanic to the game that involves circus management. ‘The show must go on’ as it is often said. The player must be able to balance the fighting aspect with the training for the performances. The performers’ skills, chemistry with each other, and Devotion are used to dictate the success of each show and you need the shows to be successful in order to earn more money.

There is no specific release date as of yet, but it has been confirmed that players will be able to immerse themselves in the steampunk style and original mechanics of Circus Electrique sometime next year. It will be available for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
