The city of Hayward said Monday it blocked access to its website after detecting a “cyber-security incident and intrusion” into its computer networks over the weekend.
The intrusion was detected early Sunday morning, and the city turned off access to its public website and associated online portals as a precaution, according to a press release.
Emergency services such as police, fire and 9-1-1 emergency dispatching remained operational, the release said.
The city has no evidence the personal information of employees or residents had been breached, but an investigation is continuing with the help of cybersecurity professionals, according to the release. If a breach of personal data is found, the city said it will contact the affected people directly.
People should contact the city and conduct business by phone, mail or in person until further notice, the city said. Hayward offices are generally open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The main Hayward City Hall phone number is 510-583-4000.
The Hayward public libraries are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Public computer access at the libraries is also temporarily unavailable.
