City road closures for major events

Sydney has a case of full blown festival fever, as thousands flock to the streets for various celebrations.

However, where there are crowds, there are restrictions and traffic mix-ups.

Here’s what’s on and where you should avoid:

Bondi Beach

With the final weekend of WorldPride underway, a sea of rainbows, glitter and all-round joy will set about Bondi Beach.

The seaside suburb is set to play host to Australian DJs all night, and international icon Nicole Scherzinger.

An estimated 15,000 people are said to be attending, with the festivities kicking off at 3pm and wrapping up at 10pm.

The 18+ event is running on the beachfront, but traffic will likely be heavy in the area.

Sydney Olympic Park

Love has truly descended upon NSW, as Harry Styles brings his Love on Tour down under.

With more than 70,000 fans heading to Accor Stadium, the area is set to be a flurry of squealing fans, feather boas and lots of Harry posters.

Qudos Bank Arena might try to compete with Styles fans, as 90s wonder boy band Backstreet Boys plays for a crowd of up to 24,000.

“For concertgoers, Sydney Olympic Park car parks are sold out on Saturday 4 March. Fans who haven’t pre-booked parking can use one of the many commuter car parks at key stations and continue their trip by train or bus to Sydney Olympic Park,” Transport for NSW chief operating officer Howard Collins said.

Mr Collins said there would be plenty of additional public transport services for the Harry Styles concerts and Sydney WorldPride closing events.

“For concertgoers we’ll have plenty of frequent trains and major event buses running to and from Sydney Olympic Park,” Mr Collins said.

Sydney Showground

Another music icon will be performing on Saturday evening to a venue of 24,000.

Jay Chou, a popular Taiwanese singer will be performing at Giants Stadium.

Sydney CBD

Due to more fabulous WorldPride celebrations, Oxford Street will be closed to cars between College Street and Flinders Street.

On Sunday, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Cahill Expressway will be closed from 4am to 11.30am for the 7am WorldPride march.

Marchers will begin in North Sydney and end at the Domain, ready for more celebrations.

Organisers are expecting around 50,000 to attend.

“Public transport travel to and from the Harry Styles concerts at Accor Stadium and three WorldPride events – the Pride March, Bondi Beach Party and Rainbow Republic – is made even easier with the cost of transport included in event tickets,” Mr Collins said.

“Attendees just need to show their event ticket or Pride March wristband to Transport for NSW staff when boarding services.

“For Pride March participants, trains will run frequently to North Sydney station which is a short walk from the start area.”

Buses will be limited, terminating on each side of the Bridge during the Pride March, but trains will be running as usual.

Oxford Street will also shut for a street party on Saturday between midday and 1am, and Sunday between 10am and 10pm.

Traffic is said to be diverted through Kings Cross or Surry Hills, with motorists reminded to allow extra travel time due to the restrictions.
