The Poolside Tee, meanwhile, shows a portrait taken by Ellen von Unwerth in 1989. “We began working together at the start of my career, and those early shoots secured the Guess Jeans campaign that [catapulted] me into the limelight,” Schiffer shares of her friend’s spontaneous style of photography.
The Super Réal collection by Claudia Schiffer for Réalisation Par otherwise focuses on the kind of effortless slip dresses that the ’90s did so well. “The decade saw a huge shift in fashion moving away from the head-to-toe perfectionist glamour of the ’80s, towards a naturalism and minimalism,” explains Claudia, whose own style graduated from the Chipie stone-washed jeans, oversized Fiorucci sweaters, and blue eyeshadow of her teens to something more stripped-back when she became a model.
“There was more freedom and individual expression,” she remembers. “Women mixed high with low—Alaïa tube dresses with high tops, Chanel jackets with vintage Levi’s—and did away with frou-frou and excess. A slip dress and Converse were one of my favorite things to wear along with jeans, T-shirts, and baseball jackets. The Claudia dress was inspired by that memory.”
