Australians are counting down the hours ahead of the second biggest lottery draw ever that could make one lucky person a multi-millionaire.
After five consecutive Powerball draws were unable to produce a single division one winner, the Powerball prize has soared to a whopping $100m ahead of Thursday night’s draw.
Just over 12 hours remain for Australians to pick up their tickets online or in newsagents across the country.
Ahead of this week’s draw, the Lott has shared new data on the entry types and numbers that have led to the most division one winners.
Up to half of Australian adults were expected to have an entry into this week’s draw in the hope they became Powerball’s ninth division one winner of 2023.
“If just one person scores the entire $100m prize on Thursday night, they’ll not only receive a substantial boost to their bank account just in time for the new financial year but also be crowned the second biggest Australian lottery winner ever,” The Lott spokesman James Eddy said.
Players are being urged to register their entry – either by using a player card or online account – to ensure they find out if they are a winner immediately after the draw.
What sets winners apart from the rest?
There have been eight division one winners so far this year who have taken home a total of $154m in prize money.
Five of these winners chose to select the numbers on their winning ticket, while four of them used PowerHit entries to guarantee them the all-important Powerball number.
The most and least common winning numbers
Every ball has an equal chance of being drawn but some numbers have come out of the barrel more often than others.
Seven winning numbers are drawn from the main barrel and the most frequently drawn numbers are 17, 7, 9, 2 and 28, while the least frequently drawn are 31, 33, 34, 15 and 6.
A single Powerball number is drawn from a possible 20 balls in the Powerball barrel.
The most frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 3 and 19, while the least frequently drawn Powerball numbers are 14 and 16.
