Co-star admits first thoughts on Ruffo were ‘SO, SO WRONG’

Home and Away star and nominee for this year’s Logie Lynne McGranger has shared her first impressions of co-star and close friend Johnny Ruffo — and how they were “so, so wrong”.

The pair met after Ruffo joined the Channel 7 drama in 2013, after becoming well known from his time on The X Factor.

McGranger spoke with 7Life and shared how she remembers watching Ruffo during his time on the singing show “thinking he was such a talent.”

“I do remember him coming onto the show and, to be honest, probably rolling my eyes and thinking, bloody reality television star,” she recalled.

“I did see him on X Factor and I remember thinking he was gorgeous, smart, funny and a beautiful guy.

“I thought he was such a talent but then rolled my eyes going, ‘Well, he’s not an actor so what the hell is he doing here?’”

McGranger said that despite her initial thoughts on the singer, they ended up getting along like a house on fire after his first day on set.

“Those initial thoughts of mine were so, so wrong,” she admitted. “It couldn’t have been further from the truth because he was a hard worker; he really, really wanted to nail it and learn about acting.

“Johnny doesn’t take himself too seriously, you know, for a young, handsome, talented man — he must have had women falling all over him.”

McGranger said the duo “hit it off from day one” and that he refers to her as his “East Coast Mama” because his real mum lives in WA.

Ruffo, who was born and raised in WA, made the move to Sydney after finding himself in the spotlight.
