Coach Cuz! Eagles great’s next footy move REVEALED

West Coast great Ben Cousins has taken his most significant step back into the football world since his AFL retirement more than a decade ago, joining WAFL club Perth in a part-time coaching role.

The West Australian understands the Brownlow medallist and Eagles premiership hero has been helping out at the Demons during pre-season training once a week and plans to continue on in the New Year.

Cousins has got his life back on track after a long battle with drug addiction and other brushes with the law which marred his brilliant 270-game AFL career.

The 44-year-old landed a role with 7NEWS Perth in a weekly segment with Adrian Barich, who was recently unveiled as the Demons’ president and had a hand in getting him down to Mineral Resources Park, this year.

He has also been speaking regularly at sportsman’s nights about his career and fall from grace.

Cousins made a brief playing comeback last year for Metro Football League outfit Queens Park, lining up twice before a serious hamstring injury ended his season.

Among the confirmed signings for Perth are former Peel Thunder defender James Ewing, ex-East Fremantle forward Zach Jackson, West Perth pair Trent Manzone and Lochie Paton, East Perth twins Cooper and Harley Sparks and prolific Victorian midfielder Charlie Thompson who was coached by German at Coburg in the VFL.
