Performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival on Saturday, April 22 was a full-circle moment for Bob’s Dance Shop, a troupe that went viral for putting their own spin on the flash mob, creating the “Flash Bob.”
The dancers — including Coco, Lito, Lucas Hive and Kameron with a K — have gone from entertaining at a Farmer’s Market in Toluca Lake to touring and performing with major artists including Marc Rebillet, The Chicks and Sofi Tukker.
“We started manifestations, what we want for Bob’s three years ago, and one of the manifestations was performing at Coachella,” Lucas Hive said during an interview backstage just before Sofi Tukker’s turn on the Outdoor Theatre stage on Saturday.
And perform they did.
The vibe curators joined the electronic duo for a playful set full of non-stop energy, serving absolute lewks and having the time of their lives. It’s contagious. Despite the heat and hours in the sun, the crowd ate up every moment of the performance.
“Festivals are where we get to play and have a lot of fun and show off the fluidity that Bob’s Dance Shop is. We really sync in with the environment, elevate it, and bring the Bob energy to it,” Lito said.
Founding member Coco first saw Sofi Tukker live at Coachella in 2017 and fell in love. Right before the pandemic hit, he scored tickets to a festival they were headlining. He put on his Bob’s yellow jumpsuit and snagged a spot in the front row.
“I turn to my right and say “Do y’all know the choreography?” he recalled. “And they say ‘No,’ so I teach them.”

He demonstrated “The People’s Dance,” consisting of a simple move of touching your hand from shoulder to shoulder and then raising it in the air with however much flair or attitude you’re comfortable with. He told his neighbors and fellow fans to follow his lead.
The whole crowd slowly started to pick up “The People’s Dance” catching the attention of Sofi Tukker.
Coco was pulled up on stage where he was able to show off all of his dance moves. Then, over the course of the pandemic, both Sofi Tukker and Bob’s Dance Shop blew up into the mainstream. When touring for the duo resumed, they called up Bob’ Dance Shop to join them.
Now the quartet of pure joy continues to tour with Sofi Tukker, spreading good vibes and good times not only at Coachella, but all over the world.
