The second day of the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio on Saturday, April 15 was filled with strong sets by a wide variety of artists.
Early day performances by Los Angeles-based acts The Linda Lindas and Remi Wolf drew large crowds to the smaller stages and rapper Flo Milli got fans dancing over in the Sahara Tent. Hip-hop infused jazz band Dinner Party (keys player Robert Glasper and saxophonist Kamasi Washington) was a fun mid-afternoon treat in the Gobi Tent and Destroy Boys, a female-led band from Sacramento, impressed with songs like “I Threw Glass in My Friend’s Eyes and Now I’m on Parole.”
Fans continued to roam the festival grounds, interacting with and posing for photos in front of the large-scale art installations, hanging out in the shade of the numerous branded activations, which included an intimate set by rappers Method Man and Redman inside the Heineken House.
Here are photos from Day 2 of Coachella. (Editor’s note: Our photographers were not permitted to photograph Blackpink’s headlining performance or Rosalía’s set).
Highlights from the evening included K-pop group Blackpink’s bubbly headlining turn that featured mind-blowing production and a lot of fun, positive energy that kept the fans passionately dancing and singing along. Supergroup Boygenius delivered a powerful set over on the Outdoor Theatre Stage and icons The Breeders rocked the Sonora Tent. DJ Calvin Harris played a special guest spot post-headliner on the main Coachella Stage with the bulk of his hits and he brought out singer Ellie Goulding for “Miracle.”
Electronic duo Odesza was the surprise guest over at the Do Lab and Spanish singer Rosalía gave a cinematic performance that included hits like “Saoko,” “Hentai” and “La Fama.” She also brought out her fiancé, singer Rauw Alejandro, for “Beso” and “Vampiros.”
