Coca Cola axes popular drink

A popular iced coffee beverage loved by Aussie tradies and sold in major supermarkets nationwide has been axed.

The go-to coffee drink on smoko, Barista Bros, will no longer be available on shelves after it was discontinued in May.

Coca Cola Australia confirmed the beloved product won’t be back available anymore.

“We continuously review our product portfolio to ensure we‘re offering more of what people love,” Coca Cola Australia said in a statement

“After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue Barista Bros in Australia.

“The production of Barista Bros for the Australian market ceased in May 2023.

“The decision will allow us to continue to focus on our core portfolio of products and provide even more of what consumers enjoy.

“While there won’t be a direct replacement for Barista Bros at this time, Coca-Cola Australia offers a range of soft drinks, waters, sports drinks, juice, mixers and teas.”

The beverage of choice for many tradies is still advertised online on the Coca Cola Australia website, at the time of publication.

The discontinuation coincided with a national recall in May this year of the 500ml and 700ml bottles of Barista Bros’ espresso, double espresso, iced chocolate and mocha drinks with a best before date from September 30, 2023 onwards.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand explained the recall was due to a “potential packaging failure leading to a possible contamination risk”.

“Food products that have been spoiled may cause illness if consumed,” Food Standards Australia New Zealand stated in May.
