Most sports icons get celebrated and criticized more than their peers, but Colin Cowherd thinks Michael Jordan has largely escaped bad press.
During his podcast, Cowherd said Jordan is “unique” in that he’s seemingly immune from censure.
“You can criticize anybody … You can’t criticize Michael Jordan,” Cowherd said.”

Cowherd said a “brilliant” Air Jordan marketing campaign has “created a Teflon shield around Michael.”
While Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green (who records podcasts for Cowherd’s The Volume) received plenty of scrutiny for hitting teammate Jordan Poole, Jordan punching Steve Kerr got dismissed as him being “very competitive.”
Cowherd also cited Jordan no longer talking to former friend Charles Barkley after the analyst criticized MJ’s ownership style on-air. He believes there’s a “mythology” around Jordan that overlooks any imperfections.
Then again, maybe Jordan just rose to stardom at the right time. If he played under the current avalanche of social media and debate shows, fans and pundits like Cowherd may pick apart his every move the way they do LeBron James.
