ESPN laid off several big names on Friday, and one of them has Colin Cowherd confused.
Former NBA head coach and current Jeff Van Gundy was let go by the network after more than a decade as part of its top NBA commentary crew.
Van Gundy called multiple NBA Finals with Mark Jackson and Mike Breen, and the trio became synonymous with the NBA itself as the voices behind some of the biggest moments in league history.
Cowherd took to Twitter to give his opinion on Van Gundy’s exit from ESPN, and he simply couldn’t believe it.

The Fox Sports 1 host called Van Gundy’s firing a “head scratcher” and said that he loves the ex-head coach.
Van Gundy is likely to find another position as a broadcaster, but it’s clear that ESPN’s NBA broadcasts will not be the same without him.
Van Gundy had a chemistry with Breen and Jackson that was developed after several years of collaboration.
Breen is a veteran in broadcasting, working with many partners over his career, but it will be difficult to imagine him calling the next NBA Finals without Van Gundy on color commentary.
Van Gundy’s firing was among several that took place at the network on Friday. Other big names to be let go included Jalen Rose, Max Kellerman, Suzy Kolber and Steve Young.
