Colin Kaepernick and his partner, Nessa Diab, have had a baby, the mother announced on social media.
Diab — who goes by her first name in her role as a radio host — posted a photo Sunday on Instagram of her, Kaepernick and the newborn. She said the baby was born “a few weeks ago.” No gender or name were revealed.
Diab, 41, and Kaepernick, 34, have been a couple since 2015.
“Colin is the most amazing dad and I’m soooo grateful that he is by our side for every moment of this journey,” she said in the post.
A few hours after the announcement, the new mother returned to work, broadcasting from the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Kaepernick played six seasons as quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers. In 2016, he began protesting racial injustice and police brutality by kneeling on the sideline during the playing of the national anthem. He became a free agent in 2017 and has not played for an NFL team since.
