College basketball power rankings: How far will UConn slide?

UCONN is no longer unbeaten after falling to Xavier on Saturday. How far will they slide in this week’s college basketball power rankings?

Another team has fallen from the ranks of the unbeaten after UCONN was tripped by Xavier at a rowdy Cintas Center on New Year’s Eve. The Musketeers took control of the game from the jump against the Huskies, who had been playing a bit sloppy of late with the burden of an undefeated campaign hanging over them.

Just two teams are left with a perfect record as we enter 2023, so how will those teams fare in this week’s college basketball power rankings? Find out that, as well as how much UCONN slipped, below but we’ll start with this week’s honorable mentions.

Week 9 College Basketball Power Rankings – Honorable Mentions

Note: All rankings referenced in this story are based on the Week 8 AP Top 25 Poll.

Xavier, New Mexico, Texas, Wisconsin, TCU

We have had quite a bit of turnover in this section from last week’s rankings as Arkansas, Baylor and Kentucky all lost at least once while Tennessee hopped into the Top 10 at the expense of Texas, which slipped out after a sluggish showing at Oklahoma on Saturday. All of this movement created openings for three new teams, including the Musketeers, who may climb into the Top 10 next week if they can build on the momentum of their upset win.

It is also time to welcome New Mexico to the honorable mentions as the only undefeated team in the country outside of Purdue. The Lobos will have a tall order to keep that run alive in the loaded Mountain West but Richard Pitino’s team deserves recognition for their tremendous start.
