Tough, no-nonsense and totally empowering, combat boots are boots that mean business. Sometimes your fashion choices can make you feel sexy, sweet or bring out full-on boss mode… and sometimes they allow you to stomp around with main character energy.
Combat boots have been slightly off the fashion radar this winter with Chelsea boots, black boots and sock boots dominating our wardrobes – but when we spotted Billie Eilish wearing a pair of lace-up combat boots we knew it was time to bring our own pair out of the closest.
Billie wore her lace-up knee-high combat boots with a pleated micro-kilt and sweater and it’s a tried-and-tested combination she’s worn in the past (hey, if it ain’t broke…)
Boots come into their own in cold seasons, duh, but don’t think they’re just a winter wonder. Obvs there is our, erm, consistently chilly weather to contend with, but even in sunnier climes boots bring an edge to your *lewks* that heels, sandals and even our favourite trainers can’t provide. Billie rocks her boots with that sharp pleated skirt and while her boots go knee-high, you might find an ankle boot way more versatile for your everyday wardrobe, making it a style that lasts you into Spring and beyond.
If it’s still too cool to get your legs out (mini-skirts are a mega SS22 trend, mind) combat boots also look excellent with tracksuit bottoms while ankle height versions work brilliantly with a slouchy trouser suit.
Grenson’s iconic Nanette boot has been extended into a knee-high version and we love Charles & Keith’s style – which also comes in influencer-approved beige. ARKET have an option without laces, which make a sleeker take on the trend while The Attico’s platform sole boots have padded details we are so here for.
