Janey Godley has admitted she’s terrified as she awaits the next step of her cancer battle.
The stand-up comedian announced earlier this month she had been forced to cancel the last weekend of her tour after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Speaking on Tuesday, the actress and writer gave her fans an update on her health and confessed she was “swaying between being terrified and screaming in anger”.
Janey, 60, took to Twitter to share the message with 237,600 followers, including a selfie and a snap of her beloved dog Honey in the moving post.
“Tomorrow I get told the next step on my ‘reluctant journey of ovarian cancer’,” the star wrote.

“Totally sounds like a bad musical play at the fringe, the family are slowly recovering from Covid – and I am swaying between being terrified and screaming in anger – Honey is enjoying the attention.”
Fans and famous faces rushed to wish the award-winning comedian well and send her messages of love and support.
ITV broadcaster Lorraine Kelly was one celebrity amongst the well-wishers, quote-tweeting Jane’s original post and writing: “Lots of love to you @JaneyGodley x”
Actress Leah MacRae replied: “Sending love and light. You’re a tough cookie. You can do this.”
Fans also had sweet messages for the popular star, with one writing: “Hi Janey, I don’t know you but you’re work has brightened many a dull day, Best wishes for your speedy recovery x”
The update comes after Janey broke the sad news to followers last Friday, adding that she would not be going ahead with the last weekend of her tour in Edinburgh and Musselburgh.
Symptoms of ovarian cancer are often mistaken for symptoms of less serious conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome.
Regular experience of the following could be a symptom of ovarian cancer:
– Persistent stomach pain;
– Persistent bloating;
– Difficulty eating/feeling full more quickly;
– Needing to wee more frequently.
The star was being treated in hospital in Glasgow after going to have symptoms checked out last Thursday.
In a video message posted on Twitter she said: “I’m really sorry I can’t make the Musselburgh and Edinburgh shows this weekend, it’s the very last dates of the tour and the tour has been so brilliant and so very well attended and successful but unfortunately I was doing the tour while I unbeknownst to me had ovarian cancer.
“I had it checked out yesterday, that’s what I’m doing in this very beautiful but very stormy corner room in hospital in Glasgow.”
She added: “Onto the next step of my journey and what is that journey? I don’t know if I’m going to be one of these people who battle bravely, who fight every step, I don’t know.”

She went on to thank the NHS and urged any of her followers who may have similar symptoms to get checked out.
“If you have any symptoms like I had, which was I felt as though I was full before I was eating a meal, I felt as though I had no real energy and there was a big bloatingness inside my stomach, I got it checked out and it’s ovarian cancer,” she informed her fans.
“So onwards and upwards, I want everybody to know that I really appreciate them for being behind me for so long and we will see what happens next.”
