Premier League title race: Man City stretch lead at top

Comedian Alan Davies has laid into Manchester City in an extraordinary rant, branding the club “filthy” and labelling Jack Grealish a “moron” who has ‘ruined his career’ by joining the club.

The Arsenal fan, best known for portraying BBC star Jonathan Creek, saw his beloved Gunners beaten 2-1 in controversial fashion by Pep Guardiola ‘s side on New Year’s Day to open up an 11-point gap at the top of the Premier League table.

And Davies held nothing back when offering his scathing opinion of the Citizens, who have been routinely criticised for their cash-fuelled success ever since the club were taken over by Sheikh Mansour in 2008.

Kicking off a fierce attack, Davies began on his podcast, The Tuesday Club : “There is a stink of Manchester City in our league and I just wish this mob had bought a club in another league.

Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Man City was marred by controversy

“Go buy Borussia Monchengladbach, take them past Bayern Munich to the top of… whatever their league’s called, just do that… the Bundesliga.

“Do that, go buy someone else. Get out of our league. We do not want your money.

“Don’t pretend you are playing great stuff and Guardiola’s a genius and this is amazing, we’re so privileged to see you… get out of our league.

“You’re not wanted here. You’re not wanted. Sell up and leave. You’ve had your fun, go away.

“No one wants the oil b****** money, no one wants to see this.”

Before Bukayo Saka put Arsenal 1-0 up, the Gunners had strong appeals for a penalty waved away by referee Stuart Attwell, leaving fans inside the Emirates furious.

Their anger was soon compounded when City were awarded spot-kick themselves once Attwell used the VAR monitor to overrule his original decision – something he was not instructed to do for Arsenal’s claim.

After Riyad Mahrez converted to make it 1-1, Citizens midfielder Rodri scored a 93rd-minute winner and sunk the 10-man Gunners, who had Gabriel Magalhaes sent off for two yellow cards in the second half.

“To come here with that attitude to football, that attitude to the opposition, that attitude to the opposition fans, that attitude to Arsenal itself which is a football institution to this country,” Davies continued.

Davies labelled Man City “filthy” and accused them of “cheating”

“To come here to behave like that in our stadium, stinking of money; filthy, cheating, in the referee’s ear, diving, pulling shirts, mouthing off a whole game, you stink! You stink out football.

“I used to like you more than Liverpool… Manchester United… we hate Tottenham, obviously, Chelsea – that stinks as they have robbed the league for years – yes, we hate all of them, but now you are top of the list. Get out of our league, sell up and go.”

“100 points? Is that normal? No, it is bent. Domestic treble? Is that normal, because of good football? It’s bent! You’re bent!

Grealish was described as a “moron” by Davies

It was then that the comedian took aim at Grealish, who left boyhood club Aston Villa in a £100million transfer this summer.

“You have a £100m moron gurning away on the bench, grinning at Arsenal fans basically taking the p*** out of us… who’s happy because he can’t get in the side, you’re not even playing!”

Davies added: “You’ve ruined your career, Grealish!

“Why don’t they sell up and leave? Can we have a vote? All 19 clubs, have a vote, get out … and play somewhere else.”
