Commuters are facing major delays as trains grind to a halt on multiple lines across Sydney.
Trains running between Bondi Junction and Central on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line were stopped for about half an hour around the peak travel time on Thursday morning.
Travellers reported being stranded on trains that stalled at stations across the city for a number of minutes before resuming once more after 8am.
“Sydney trains are awful,” one person tweeted at 7.45am.
“My train has been stopped in the middle of nowhere for 15 minutes, no communication, no nothing and now I’m going to be 15 minutes late to my destination.”
“Brush how are Sydney trains actually this bad,” another wrote just after 8am.
Trains resumed services between Bondi Junction and Central on the T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line just after 8am, however commuters have been warned that delays will continue throughout the morning.
Customers have been warned to allow up to 20 minutes extra travel time and check the timetable as some services may have altered stops.
Frequent services are operating, some with changed stops.
A Transport NSW spokesman said the issue was “due to urgent track repairs at Martin Place”.
Commuters travelling on the Inner-West and Bankstown lines are also facing delays as urgent train repairs commenced just before 8am at Regents Park.
Sydney Trains are urging customers to allow plenty of extra travel time, as trains may stop on platforms or between stations for longer than normal while the incident is ongoing.
Some Western Line and North Shore Line trains are running up to 10 minutes late as a result of these delays on the network.
Commuters are advised to delay their trip or consider catching a local bus.
“Passengers should also allow plenty of extra travel time, listen to announcements and check information displays for service updates,” the spokesman said.
