Last month’s Howard Days, the annual celebration of the life and work of the father of sword-and-sorcery, Robert E. Howard, in Howard’s hometown of Cross Plains, Texas, drew fans from around the world to honor one of the greatest mythmakers of the modern age.
Part of the yearly celebration are the awards given by the Robert E. Howard Foundation for excellence in Howard Scholarship of all kinds. Everything from printed media to blog posts, visual art, scholarly essays, even a radio play, can be seen in the list below — the REHF Awards cast a wide net for Howard-related material, which is only fitting for a writer whose work has had such a broad and lasting impact on our culture.
Below you can see the winners, with links where appropriate to their winning works. Congratulations to them (and a special shout out to Tales From the Magicians’ Skull contributor Jason Ray Carney!), as well as all the nominees, and a heartfelt salute to everyone’s whose creative endeavors in the field of Howard Studies and the larger world of sword-and-sorcery in general help to fan the flames of this “earthier sort of fantasy.”
