Conor Benn is adamant his fight against Chris Eubank Jr will go ahead as planned on Saturday, insisting he is a ‘clean athlete’ after testing positive for a banned substance.

It was revealed Benn, 26, returned an ‘adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug’, thought to be comifene, a substance prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.

A statement from Benn’s promoter Matchroom stated their fighter is ‘free to fight’ with the Londoner subsequently passing a doping control test conducted by the UK Anti-Doping Agency.

The British Board of Boxing Control have ‘prohibited’ the fight from taking place this weekend but Benn has defiantly insisted the show will go on.

‘You guys have read what the Daily Mail published about me today and I wanted you guys to hear it personally from me rather than read it as a statement from me and my team,’ Benn told Matchroom’s YouTube channel before taking part in a live workout.

‘I have not committed any violations, I’ve not been suspended so as far as I am concerned the fight is still going ahead.

‘I have spoken to Chris personally, we both want the fight to go ahead. We have both taken medical and legal advice. We want the fight to happen for the fans.

‘I’ve signed up for every voluntary anti-doping test under the sun throughout my whole career and all my UKAD testing has come back negative throughout my whole career. I have never had any issues before.

‘Even in the lead up to this fight, my tests have come up negative so my team will find out as to why there has been an initial adverse finding in my test.

‘As I said, as far as I’m concerned, the fight is still going ahead. I am clean athlete, and we will get to the bottom of this.’

In their joint-statement, Matchroom and Eubank Jr’s promoter Wasserman revealed both Benn and the Brighton fighter were eager for the fight to go ahead.

Benn revealed details of his conversation with his rival, insisting Eubank Jr was understanding of the situation.

‘He fully believes. He believes in me,’ Benn said. ‘It is not who I am and it’s not what I am about. I am a professional athlete and he was understanding. We both want the fight to go ahead and as far as I’m concerned it is going ahead.’
