Conor Benn has reportedly failed a drugs test ahead of his showdown against Chris Eubank Jr.
The 26-year-old has been notified he has returned and adverse finding for the banned substance clomifene, according to the Daily Mail.
Saturday’s showdown at the sold-out O2 Arena comes almost 30 years after the second fight between their two iconic fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Snr.
Eubank Jr is reportedly still eager for the bout to go ahead but the development will surely plunge the fight in doubt just days before the opening bell.
Clomifene usually used to treat infertility in women but can increase testosterone in men. It is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.
Metro.co.uk have contacted Benn’s promotion company Matchroom Boxing for comment.
Benn and Eubank Jr were scheduled to come face-to-face at a final press conference on Thursday before the weigh-in on Friday afternoon.
Their fight was set to go ahead at a catchweight of 157lbs – requiring welterweight Benn to pack on 10lbs with Eubank Jr dropping down from 160lbs where he has campaigned at middleweight.
Benn is undefeated in 21 professional fights having enjoying a stunning rise over the last two years.
Eubank Jr has won 30 of his 32 professional bouts with his only defeats coming to fellow Brits Billy Joe Saunders and George Groves.
The 32-year-old has persistently claimed that the 157lbs catchweight will ensure he can only operate at 60 per cent of his usual ability – insisting that will be more than enough to put away his opponent.
His father Eubank Snr has shared grave concerns over the weight cut, however, this week urging fight fans to boycott the contest.
Tony Sims, Benn’s trainer, revealed last week that should Eubank Jr come in 1.5lbs or more over the limit, they have the option to cancel the fight.
