Conor McGregor has sent a good luck message to Katie Taylor encouraging her to make history ahead of her undisputed title clash with Amanda Serrano.
Taylor and Serrano will make history when they duel in front of a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York tonight. The Irish star will no doubt be backed by a huge following across the pond and will be looking to maintain her undefeated record in the toughest fight of her career.
McGregor has posted a good luck message on social media, tweeting: “Let’s go tonight, Katie Taylor! Making history once again, this time in the famed Madison Square Garden! With you all the way champ.”
The Irish pair have met on multiple occasions and have recorded similar meteoric rises in their respective sports with Taylor having risen and become the face of the rise in women’s boxing. McGregor and Taylor have previously met after one of Taylor’s events where he congratulated her in the dressing room after victory.
YouTube star Jake Paul who is on the rival side of Taylor’s camp working with Amanda Serrano now believes that the female star has eclipsed the legacy of McGregor and is a bigger star in Ireland. “I respect Katie Taylor,” said Paul. “I think she’s awesome, she’s been nothing but kind to me and she’s a champion she’s done so much for the sport and women’s boxing so for that, she’s a legend.
“She’s the biggest thing in Ireland, and why wouldn’t she be? Conor McGregor hasn’t won a fight in five years so do people really care about him? He’s washed up. Obviously Katie Taylor is going to be the girl that they support.”
Taylor will face arguably the most formidable examination of her sensational pedigree against a hard-hitting Puerto Rican who is a nine-time world champion in seven different weight categories. The pair are set to earn a record payday for the event with both fighters set for a bumper seven-figure purse.

The 35-year-old is excited for the opportunity to make history in New York and believes she can secure another career-defining victory to inspire the next generation. “This is definitely very different than how I started boxing when I was eight or nine years old,” Taylor said. Like Eddie said, I had to pretend I was a boy to get fights. Women’s boxing wasn’t even a sanctioned sport in Ireland.
“Now here we are many years later headlining MSG, the most iconic venue in boxing. Making history as the biggest women’s boxing match in history is just incredible. This is all of the sacrifice that I have been working for, for sure. I don’t train to lose any fights.
“I train to win. The best part about this fight is being able to inspire the next generation. This fight on Saturday night is going to inspire a lot of young girls and that to me is the best part about this.”
