In his usual style, UFC star Conor McGreogor sent a bold statement to former boxers Carl Froch and George Groves on social media on Saturday night. It comes after a call-out from Froch himself recently.
‘The Cobra’ fought 35-year-old George Groves on two occasions and emerged victorious in both, the second of which was the last bout of his career in 2014. Froch, meanwhile, has had several spats with the Notorious One over the last few years and now speculation has intensified regarding the pair clashing in the boxing ring.
After Froch mentioned on his podcast that he would participate in a rare crossover fight with the Irishman, McGregor demanded that Eddie Hearn make it official. Tonight the UFC icon issued a savage tweet aimed at both Froch and Groves as he let them know what he expects to happen if they were to step inside the Octagon.
“I’ll slaughter Froch and Groves at the same time in the cage,” said McGreogor, who is never afraid to speak his mind on social media. In the comments, the account of Grove’s podcast, The George Groves Boxing Club, responded to the former UFC champion’s message by confidentiality asking: “Come down the club and chat about it?”

McGregor’s statement comes after Froch was asked on an episode of his Froch on Fighting show with Groves who would win between UFC legend and Jake Paul, the latter being a boxer Froch has criticised on multiple occasions. The former champion joked that “neither of them can box”, and even claimed he would provide a stern test to McGregor in a UFC cage.
“I’m too big, too strong for both of them. Seriously, Jake Paul, I’d only need one arm for Jake Paul,” Froch said. “Conor McGregor might give me a few small problems, but he’s too small. I wouldn’t train much for either of them. If I’m fighting Conor McGregor in the cage, I’d train harder, because I’d fight Conor McGregor in the cage.
“I could be getting myself in trouble here or into a position I can’t wiggle out of, but I think I’d take him on in the cage. Is that ridiculous? Is that wrong? I’d take him on in the cage, he’s too small.” McGregor previously took aim at Froch after claiming he couldn’t punch ‘the skin off a rice pudding’. “That Froch tick, little scrawny pencil neck,” McGregor wrote in a deleted tweet from last year.
“I’ll grab his head and twist it clean off at a oner with my bare hands. Little wally of a thing. I’ll slap you around you little toffee nose tosspot.” Froch stood his ground and hit back: “Who is this mouthy little pr*** talking to? I will drag you outside with that wispy beard & show you how the big boys do it!!”
Not one to be lacking in confidence, Froch recently evaluated his chances of defeating Mexican star Canelo Alvarez. Ahead of Canelo’s return to the ring after eight months out on May 6 against John Ryder in his native Mexico, Froch said: “He’s quite a bit shorter than me, he’s 5’8 or 5’9. He reminds me of Arthur Abraham, who I outboxed and kept at the end of my reach.
He added: “So I’d back myself to beat Canelo, he’s not big enough.”
