Conor McGregor has been told to forget about a UFC title shot after suffering three defeats in his last four outings.

The Irish star has suffered two consecutive defeats to Dustin Poirier this year and has slid down the pecking order in the lightweight division.

He is currently plotting his comeback as he steps up his recovery from a broken leg suffered against Poirier at UFC 264 and claimed on social media that he will be claiming a UFC title shot on his return.

“Hey, bums! Nobodies. The title shot’s mine. Happy “Champ Champ” day, MMA,” McGregor said.

But MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz, who managed bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov, has hit back at his claim by pointing out his recent record.

Abdelaziz responded: “You’re 1-3 in your last 4 fights. Sit back Jack. You’re the only bum in the top 15.”

The Russian manager is the founder of Dominance management with his stable also including pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman and Nurmagomedov’s lightweight protege Islam Makhachev.

McGregor battled with Nurmagomedov’s team during his 2018 defeat to the Russian where he was submitted in devastating fashion.

This sparked chaotic post-fight scenes at UFC 229 which have led to a bitter rivalry that rumbles on in the present day.

The 33-year-old will remain in the UFC after his injury with two fights remaining on his current contract.

But McGregor will be eyeing an emphatic response on his comeback with just one victory to his name since the start of 2017 against Donald Cerrone.

And he has since been called out by a number of opponents including Max Holloway, Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson for a bout on his return to action.

Makhachev has naturally been thrust into a potential duel with McGregor but is highly unlikely to be the superstar’s next opponent.

With a huge slide down the rankings placing him in ninth position behind the likes of Makhachev and Chandler, McGregor could be far back in the queue for a title shot.

But UFC president Dana White expects the Irishman to still headline a card on his return.

“He’s still one of the top ten guys in the world. I mean, he’s still one of the top ten best guys in the world,” he told Pardon My Take.

“It would depend on who he’s fighting but yeah, Conor [McGregor] coming back is a headliner.”
