Conor McGregor’s ex-sparring partner makes wild Jake Paul prediction

Jake Paul would knock Conor McGregor out if the two were to go head-to-head in a boxing mega-fight. That’s the view of former world champion boxer Paulie Malignaggi, who claimed his former sparring partner McGregor “doesn’t have a lot of heart”.

There is no love lost between Malignaggi and the ex-UFC champion following a dramatic sparring session before McGregor’s fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2017, which led to the American storming out of the Irishman’s training camp. His departure came when a photo of him being ‘knocked down’ was posted on social media channels.

And now the 42-year-old has aimed a jibe at McGregor by suggesting YouTuber Paul would beat him in the ring.

Speaking to Betway, Malignaggi said: “I think Jake Paul would knock Conor out. Conor is too susceptible to those loopy shots and Jake hits hard enough that only needs to hit you with one or two of them.

“I think Conor has decent sharp shots but I don’t think Conor has the discipline to stay with those little sharp shots for a certain amount of rounds. I think he would fall apart because he doesn’t have a lot of heart. Conor has no balls.

“If you take Conor a few rounds he already has this very big discomfort and mistakes naturally create themselves. You don’t even have to create them anymore.

“I think he would do OK for a couple of rounds, but if you didn’t get Jake out in a couple of rounds, I think Jake would knock him out, and he would probably knock out with a big shot.”

Malignaggi was invited to spar with McGregor after belittling the 34-year-old’s chances of beating undefeated Mayweather. The 15-time world champion would go on to win the bout in ten rounds and having sparred with McGregor, Malignaggi claimed that the result was never in doubt.

He said: “Coming out of that spar I thought this has got to be the biggest money heist in the history of money. This guy is so terrible and he’s going to fight Mayweather, probably the best boxer in the history of the sport. Even though he’s retired, Mayweather is going to beat this guy with his eyes closed. And that’s basically how it went. He played with them.”

McGregor’s defeat to Mayweather remains his only professional boxing appearance and the Irishman has not competed at all since breaking his leg in 2021, but is expected to rejoin UFC’s anti-doping programme imminently ahead of a return to the sport.

McGregor recently suggested that he may be willing to resume his foray into boxing as well, with a possible match-up against Mexican Canelo Alvarez.
