Amul had issued a statement clarifying that the viral video is fabricated and intended to spread misinformation and unnecessary fear among consumers.

A video showing contaminated Amul Lassi is doing the rounds on social media platforms. In the viral video, we could see that the lassi packet was contaminated with fungus even before its expiry date. The packet was opened and a layer of green fungus was visible in the video

The viral clip shows packets of Amul lassi, one of which is set to expire on October 12 this year. A man cuts its upper portion and shows a fungus-like substance that has developed on top of the yogurt-based drink.

Caption of the video states “sealed Pack Amul Lassi severly Contaminated with latest expiry date.Have a look in this video”.

Fact Check- 

Google search with relevant keywords led us to a tweet by Amul, which clarified about the viral video. According to the clarification, “This is for your kind information that a fake message is being forwarded on Whatsapp and Social Media platforms regarding inferior quality of Amul Lassi. The creator of the video has not contacted us for clarification, nor the location has been disclosed,” the dairy company said in a statement. “We wish to assure you that Amul Lassi is made at our state-of-the-art dairies and undergo strict quality checks for product quality and integrity of packaging. As standard practice, we mention on all our packs the following declaration for the safety of our customers, “DO NOT BUY PUFFED/LEAKY PACK.”
They further said that the packets seemed to be damaged from the straw hole area and liquid was leaking from it, which could probably have caused the discoloration and fungus development. “This video has been used to create misinformation and spread unnecessary fear and concern among our consumers. We request you to kindly share this message with your family and friends and assure them about the goodness of Amul lassi,” they wrote.
