Last week, NBA Countdown analyst Jalen Rose was one of the roughly 20 on-air talents let go by ESPN in the network’s most recent round of layoffs.
So, who will replace Rose on the Countdown crew?
Former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins has emerged as a “strong contender” to take over Rose’s vacated spot, according to Michael McCarty of Front Office Sports.

Perkins, 38, has become a fixture on ESPN shows like Get Up, First Take and NBA Today. His hot-take strategy has made him a polarizing figure in the sports media world.
Internal hires J.J. Redick, Richard Jefferson and Chiney Ogwumike have also been mentioned as possible replacements for Rose. Redick is also being considered to replace color commentator Jeff Van Gundy, who was let go in the same round of ESPN layoffs.
Perkins, Jefferson and Ogwumike each served on the NBA Countdown crew for Wednesday night games this past season.
If Perkins were to sign on with the weekend crew, he would join Mike Greenberg, Stephen A. Smith, Adrian Wojnarowski and Michael Wilbon.
