Cooking tip for jacket potatoes gives them ‘really crispy skin’ in under an hour

Jacket potatoes are perfect for a last-minute dinner idea, either on their own or to accompany a warming casserole or stew.

Either way, the best way to eat them is with a crunchy, seasoned skin and a fluffy potato core that can be slathered in butter.

Though many people have their own unique method to achieve just that, one food blogger claimed to have a speedy solution that warrants impressive results.

Sharing her cooking tip on her blog, Liana’s Kitchen, Liana suggested swapping traditional oven-baked spuds for air-fried versions.

She said: “The result is similar to when you cook a jacket potato in the oven – the same crispy skin with soft and fluffy potato inside.”

How To Cook Jacket Potato In An Air Fryer

There’s nothing too complicated about preparing air-fried jacket potatoes as it’s exactly the same for all the other cooking methods.

All that’s needed is an air fryer, baking potatoes – floury varieties like Maris Piper are best, as well as oil and seasoning.

Liana said: “You can cook just one potato or two or more at a time – it depends on the size of your air fryer. If you are cooking more than one, make sure there is enough space between the potatoes so that they can crisp up.”

Give each spud a good scrub under running water before cooking, and pat them dry with a clean tea towel.

Use a fork to pierce the raw skin a few times and brush a little oil over the surface of each one.

The cooking expert claimed that the oil will help the potato to achieve its crispy skin.

Sprinkle some salt on the skin, as well as any other dried seasonings like garlic granules, chilli flakes, or herbs.

Next, place the potato or potatoes in the air fryer basket to cook. Liana said: “I don’t wrap them in foil as I like a really crispy potato skin. If you don’t want your skin as crispy, you can wrap them in foil and remove them for the last 15 minutes to crisp up.”

The air fryer should be set to 200C for 40 minutes, though the spuds may need less or more time depending on the size of them.

Check they are cooked by piercing the potatoes with a sharp knife to reveal a “soft and fluffy” inside.

When the baked potatoes are cooked to your liking, carefully remove them from the air fryer basket and slice them in half. Add some butter, grated cheese, or other fillings.
