Cop jumps for his life to escape speeding teen in BMW

Harrowing footage has been released of a police officer in the US state of Virginia jumping to avoid an out-of-control 2018 BMW M3 being driven “at a high rate of speed”.

Around midday on May 1, the officer pulled over a 2012 BMW 750i as part of a routine traffic stop. The dash-cam video posted by the Fairfax County Police Department shows the officer having a conversation with the sedan’s driver.

On the other side of the road, a 2017 BMW M3 can be seen traveling at high speeds around the bend before losing control and sliding across the median strip towards oncoming traffic.

The 17-year old driver – carrying two passengers – smashes into the 750i and appears to clip the officer before hitting the police cruiser.

Thanks to his quick reflexes, the officer avoided being struck more directly by the M3 and was able to walk away.

All parties involved received only minor injuries and have been treated.

“The BMW spun around, crossed the median, striking the community member’s vehicle and then the officer’s vehicle. The officer was struck and nearly killed,” Fairfax County P.D. said in a press release.

“The adult driver in the BMW 750 Series on the traffic stop was taken to the hospital with minor injuries not considered to be life-threatening and has since been released from the hospital.

“The officer sustained minor injuries. The juvenile driver of the BMW M3 and the two passengers sustained minor injuries. The juvenile was charged with reckless driving.”

Fairfax County Police Department posted the experience to social media to encourage parents to have a conversation with their teenage children about reckless driving and the effects it may have on others on the road.
