Battle animations are very, very slow. Even setting text speed to fastest possible it still just takes way too long for battles to commence. Why do I need to dismiss 5 separate XP messages one after another, every time, when it could just be summarized in 1 screen instead?

Controls are a bit iffy with keyboard+mouse. Cannot bind abilities to different hotkeys. Have to hold F for a few seconds, then select ability, then cancel out of screen, and only then can an ability be used. A process that should be instant (with hotkeys) takes 5+ seconds per action instead.

Potential system is a bit of hit and miss for me. In order to get a “perfect” coromon (biggest statgrow), it needs to have a potential of 21. I have never seen a 21 in the wild but found three 20s. You can use a machine to upgrade the potential of a coromon for gold, however this system is flawed as it will mostly not work (20 stays 20, and removes ability to retry). What this results in is a very tedious process of saving, giving your monster to an NPC, walking around for a few minutes, and then seeing it didn’t work. Reload the save and repeat the process a good 20 or so times per coromon. Not only does this feel super stupid, but it’s a gigantic waste of time, too. Instead of making things super low probability, requiring reloads and retries over and over, just up the price and make it reliable.

Story and Quests were cliché but works. Around 34 hrs to complete on normal difficulty. Light puzzle elements, which i found mostly easy but someone who hates puzzles might struggle with. Milestone rewards/level reached too early. Last third of the game or so didn’t get any more rewards from milestones. Ending and last 2 areas felt rushed. Lack of side quests or interesting stuff the further you progress.

There is online play which I didn’t really get into because it requires all those time-wasting grind mechanics (plus fruit grind) multiplied by a factor of a thousand. Not my thing.

Overall, many time-wasting mechanics, made me not want to hunt for a completion. If there was a “fast battleanimation” setting, and bindable hotkeys for overworld skills, and reliable potentification I believe I would have had a lot more fun. It’s a decent Pokémon clone, but doesn’t excel.
