The 2023 British Soap Awards have taken place with Jane McDonald replacing Phillip Schofield as host.

Viewers will get to see all the emotional speeches as a special programme will air on ITV on Tuesday, June 6.

Coronation Street was the most successful soap of the night, scooping six awards, with EastEnders taking away four.

Emmerdale only won one award this year, with Mark Charnock winning an Outstanding Achievement Award.

Best Single Episode – Coronation Street acid attack

The shocking storyline saw Ryan Connor (played by Ryan Prescott) take the full force of a glass of acid intended for Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) on her wedding day.

As Daisy prepared to marry Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), the pair were shocked to find her stalker Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still) waiting.

Ofcom received 72 complaints related to the scenes with some viewers branding it “horrendous”.

Ahead of the results, Ravi actor Aaron admitted his character had made a lot of enemies as he addressed whether he could be the Christmas murder victim.

He told Express.co.uk: “He has made a few enemies and there are more enemies to come which is quite difficult to fathom as he has made quite a few already.

“There’s a lot more highs and lows in the drama so it’s all teeing up for an exciting Christmas.”

Once again the harrowing acid attack won an award for its poignancy as it highlighted the devastating impact and long-lasting effects of such heinous attacks.

EastEnders – Whitney and Zach say goodbye to Peach

Emmerdale – Paddy’s suicide attempt

Hollyoaks – Zoe tells abused Maxine ‘It’s not your fault’

Best Storyline – Hollyoaks – Incel Eric targets Mason and Maxine

Three characters were fighting for their lives after the dramatic siege in which Eric Foster (Angus Castle-Doughty) held a group of locals hostage in the pub as he took revenge against the women of the village.

EastEnders – Loving and losing Lola

Best Dramatic Performance – Charlotte Jordan – Coronation Street

Daisy Midgeley has been through an ordeal on the soap following the acid attack and its turbulent aftermath.

With her marriage left in tatters, viewers are wondering if she will explore a relationship with Ryan.

The star may have provided plenty of laughs but she recently opened up about some more hard-hitting moments.

Appearing on Loose Women to speak about her upcoming exit she said: “They’ve really put me through it the last few weeks.

“I’ve had seven scenes to learn a day. The last shot last night I literally lay on the floor and said ‘I can’t go on’.”

Revealing what Corrie viewers could expect from the character, the actress had said: “She’s a bit of me! Dee-Dee’s going to bring a lot of fun, a lot of chaos – but in a good way, hopefully!

“Dee-Dee is organised chaos, is how I describe her. She bursts into any room she’s in, she’s a big personality but she’s really hard-working. She’s a great lawyer, she knows what she’s doing.”

Danielle recently made an emotional exit from the soap after her character Lola died following a devastating cancer battle.

Jay Brown star Jamie Borthwick paid tribute to the actress, saying on Instagram: “Working together for all these years has been the best! She really is a special one!

“Danielle has worked so incredibly hard delivering Lola’s cancer storyline and deserves all her praise, as does the whole cast and team for their efforts! Gonna miss ya at work kid love ya [heart emoji].”
