Dancing on Ice has put hundreds of contestants to the challenge over the years, in a hopeful bid they will be crowned king or queen of the ice rink. But for Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor, 58, it took her almost three years to accept the offer to do the ITV show.
Ahead of the new series returning to our screens this January, the actress admitted it was her fear of injury that prevented her from taking part when she was previously offered a place in the competition.
And if it wasn’t for the pandemic, she might have felt the same.
In a new interview, the Sally Webster star winced: “It was just too scary, and I was worried about hurting myself.
“My younger daughter Hattie used to go, and I’d get a coffee and watch her from the side.

“But I’d never go on the ice. I was first asked about Dancing On Ice three years ago, but it’s taken me this long to pluck up the courage to do it.”
She continued: “The lockdowns were a factor in me deciding to take up the offer.
“They made me think I should take every opportunity that comes my way, as I don’t know how many more there will be.”
Sally told The Mirror that she sees the series as a way to “push herself out of comfort zone” and believes if she hadn’t accepted the opportunity now, she never would.
It comes as they feared Phil would put himself in danger, after he experienced a close shave 15 years ago, back when the show first began.
The 59-year-old confessed he “got into proper, proper trouble” after he disobeyed orders.
Professional skater Matt and judge Christopher had volunteered to show the 59-year-old – then 44 – the ropes on the rink, but the showbiz star had a sudden change of heart.
“I had a go,” he acknowledged of his first attempt, “Then I looked up and there were five suits standing on the lectern and I thought, ‘That doesn’t look good.'”
He continued: “They said, ‘You are not insured, you can’t skate, you have to come off.'”
“I thought if I take responsibility for myself, it’s nobody’s fault if I fall over and hurt myself.”
Talking to The Sun, Phil confessed: “So the next week, I went out again and got into proper, proper trouble.
“That was the end of my skating!”
