BERLIN, Nov 17: The new wave of COVID-19 threatens the recovery of the German economy, said the Institute for Economic Studies and Research (IFO) Wednesday.
During an interview with a local German newspaper, Ifo’s president, Clemens Fuest, said that the spread of infections is reducing economic activity in sectors of social consumption, gastronomy, travel, culture and events because people are avoiding infection risks.
Fuest called for urgent action to stem the new wave of the coronavirus in Germany without affecting the economic sector.
Germany reported record levels of COVID-19 cases as the country faces a virulent fourth wave of the pandemic that has taken hold since late October.(KUNA)
