COVID-19 vaccinations continue to climb in San Bernardino County

San Bernardino County residents continue to have the lowest coronavirus vaccination rate in Southern California, but vaccinations were back up the first week of December.

As of Monday, Dec. 6, 1.2 million county residents had received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 1.1 million are fully vaccinated. In the past week, another 54,895 vaccine doses were administered, according to county health officials. Only 56% of San Bernardino County residents have received at least one dose, compared to 71% of California residents. In Riverside County, 60% of residents have received at least one dose and the figure in Los Angeles County is 73%.

But COVID-19 cases continue to rise as winter weather arrives. Over the past week, 3,830 more cases were reported, along with 15 more deaths.

There were 348 county residents with confirmed COVID-19 cases hospitalized, according to Monday’s data. That’s the largest number of new cases since late September and up 47% from Oct. 15 — the low point after the summer and fall surge — when 236 residents were hospitalized. Hospitalization statistics reflect numbers from the day before.

Although cases are up 108% in a week and tests up 109%, that’s likely largely due to lots of data being added after public health staff members took days off for the holiday.

Here are the latest numbers. Vaccination and hospitalization data comes from the state and is as of Sunday, Dec. 5. Other numbers were reported by the county Monday.
